Sir Thomas More Reproduction of the painting by Hans Holbein in 1527. Hans Holbein was a wonderful painter. His works are exquisitely detailed and wonderfully rich. I could not resist reproducing this! This gentleman is Sir Thomas More. More hosted Holbein when he came to England in 1527. Holbein painted More, his son and family. Holbein became the favored court painter to King Henry VIII while the then Lord Chancellor Thomas More was beheaded in 1535 for opposing Henry's divorce of Queen Catherine - eight years after the painting upon which this work is after. Holbein's Thomas More hangs in the Frick Museum in New York. See progress pictures of this painting as it was done.
